Old What's His Name

I am a numbers person. Always have been. Probably always will be. I like to track numbers. I like to study numbers. I like to see how things change from week to week, month to month, and year to year. Call it weird wiring if you want to. But, that’s how I’m wired.

One of the blogs that I enjoy reading belongs to Heidi. From time to time, Heidi shares a little about who visits her blog, how often, etc. I was very proud that in a recent month, the most referrers to her blog came from my blog! Well, since I enjoy reading her blog so much that may not really have been such an honor—many of those referrers were probably from me personally!

Anyway, I decided to check my site (for the first time since I started it on April 26). What I found was interesting, at least for a numbers geek. All of these numbers are as of yesterday, just in case you are keeping track!

I have had 1,143 comments shared on my site! I am appreciative for each and every comment made. I really am. To be honest, I’ve come to think of many of the commentors as friends—isn’t that weird!

The most commented upon post was about my son—The Smallest Brave—on July 23. I received 35 comments that day.

The second most commented upon post was the one I wrote about the house that burned down, leaving an image of “the Virgin Mary” on the wall (August 25). That post received 24 comments.

The third most commented upon post was a tie—Paging Dr. Smith (July 22) and the BBQ Song (August 29)—they both had 23 comments.

The words that brought the most people to my site? Well, I was shocked! “The Most Expensive Hamburger in the World!” People, apparently, around the world care about that kind of thing.

86.45% of people visiting my site come from the US. 5.63% come from Canada—I think they all came to read my continuing saga about the found feet in British Columbia.

The people who visit my site most often come from Alabama, Texas, then Florida.
The most referrals to date: Well, my blogger buddy Bill!

And, to keep everything in perspective, my Technorati ranking currently is 597,370. I guess that’s not too bad considering how many blogs are out there and the fact that I’ve only been blogging since late April. But, man, do I have a long way to go to reach number 1. I don’t think I’ll ever break the 500,000 rank! But, who cares! I just write to write and to offer a few thoughts on the day.

Okay, enough numbers for one day, if there is such a thing. I don’t want to bore the few people who regularly check out my blog—whether on purpose or simply by hitting “Next Blog” at the top of Blogspot.com!

  1. I will keep coming back and coming back until you reach the 500,000 number. I enjoy reading your blog Steve. You are a down to earth guy who keeps things interesting. And I will keep sending people your way. Thanks for the plug too. :) Us lonesome bloggers must stick together (or at least keep visiting each other's sites so the numbers look good).

  2. Thanks for the plug and the compliments. So far in the past 30 days you're still #1 with 187 referrals. Yahoo!!! Thanks Steve!!! Oh, and Florida is MEEEE. You knew that. I had to laugh that you picked today to plug me though -- all that talk about boobies over there. I'm sort of blushing now. ;)

Thanks for finding my blog and for sticking around. I am a daily reader of yours too.

Be careful or you'll become a stats junkie. Ha!!!

  3. Thanks Bill...I appreciate you sticking with me! I wonder how long it will take us to get to 7,500 or 10,000 comments like some of the sites we follow? At the rate we are going...oh well, Jesus will either be back by then or we'll be dead for a long time! :)

I appreciate your site as well...you are far more spiritual than me and you really know how to share from the heart!

  4. Yes Heidi...an interesting day...I've been thinking about commenting on your post today...but, I've really been THINKING through what I need to say! :)

Well, anyway, the way I look at it, with the topic of your post, and me linking to it...I'm sure your hit count will go through the roof!

Don't worry...I'll be sticking around for some time! I always enjoy hearing about your journey with God and the struggles you so honestly write about! I wish I could be that open and honest...

  5. Kevin...deep thought...got a specific reason for it? When I asked for input several weeks ago, no one really gave me a great reason to switch...

  6. Also, I did set up a Wordpress account...my ranking on that one? A whopping 5,000,000 and some change! Sure makes the 500,000 mark look better!!!! :)

  7. Steve,

So nice to know you consider some of us friends.

Texas? Who could possibly live in Texas? ;)

  8. Camey...I almost said "family!" But. I knew if I did, I'd never hear the end of it from Bill!

Texas is a big state! But, I do see a certain city pop up from time to time...

Makes me smile when it does!

  9. Steve.... funny! I almost said, "Hey? What do you mean 'friends' - we're family."

Correct me here if I'm wrong.. (which I can be at any given moment) but don't you and Bill talk about the fact that you could be brothers? Which one of you started that first? You? Bill? I thought it was Bill. Then again, like I said - I can be wrong at any given moment.

Good to know it makes you smile.

And if Kevin could ever convince me on the whole wordpress thingy - I might follow that brother's advice.

BTW: Must confess - I like your new "Question of the Day" posts. It's the sister in me.

  10. Camey...I don't know whether Bill or I started the discussion about how much we are alike...I'll take credit for it...only to have him correct me! Just like brothers!

I haven't been convinced about Wordpress being better...no one could give me a definite, this is the reason you should change, argument...so, I'm staying where I am for now...

So...Miss Questionator...what about the Question of the Day do you like? Be careful...if you encouragement me too much, I'm a typical man, and will give a question a day forever...

And my sister...yes, if I had had sister...you would have been a great choice! Do you think it is too late to put that request in to my parents?

  11. Thanks, Steve. Oh, you could just put that request in to your parents as a conversation started... lol

Typical man? You? Nope. Sorry. One reason being your picture for the "Question of the Day"... a coffee cup and saucer. I'm just sayin'.. in a sisterly way.
