Depression--100 Words

Rollo May said, “Depression is the inability to construct a future.”

I don’t know about the accuracy of that quote.

Seems to me that depression is more far reaching than just not being able to construct a future.

Depression is what keeps you sleeping in bed all day or awake all night.

Depression is what drives a person to silence, screaming, cursing, anger, or death.

Depression is what makes a person put on a stiff upper lip, thinking no will even notice that it is just an act.

Depression seems to always be close by, but never a good friend.

  1. I know people who go through bouts of depression. I am grateful that I have been blessed with good health. I see a bi-polar lady every Fall and Spring go into the deeps even though she knows it is coming. I agree with you assessment: close by but not a good friend. Hard part is making sure of not being judgmental when someone you know and love goes down. I pray hard for a good heart toward them.

  2. Depression is a blanket that one does not want to take off for fear of freezing from the sheer nakedness of life's changing seasons.

Depression is an inescapeable abyss where no one wants to bring another a candle.

Depression becomes the only friend one has until one realizes it is the enemy.
