Being A Dad--100 Words

Being a dad.

There are so many special things in life.

Becoming a Christ follower ranks number one.

Getting married is special and ranks a close second.

But, becoming a dad, is almost beyond words.

Watching a child grow. Watching a child’s face change every day. Listening as they grunt, mumble, and speak.

Listening as words become sentences.

Then, there’s crawling. Walking. Then running.

But, of all the things a child does, it’s hard to beat seeing a child reach up his or her hand, placing it into your hand, and then smiling from ear-to-ear.

I love being a dad.

Father's Day--100 Words

Father’s Day.

Most important day of the year.

Just ask any father!

It is a time to reflect upon our own fathers.

And, the job they did. Or, the job they did on us.

It is also a time to reflect on our own years of being a father.

To learn lessons discovered the hard way.

There’s no textbook that comes with our children. No owner’s manual.

Basically, shortly after birth, the doctor bundles up the screaming little child and says, “This belongs to you now.”

Honestly, that was one of the most frightening days of my life!

Still is.

Daddy--100 Words

Daddy.

Only 5 letters. But such a huge word. Difficult to fulfill and live. Father. Dad. Daddy.

One night a father overheard his son pray: “Dear God, Make me the kind of man my Daddy is.” Later that night, the Father prayed, “Dear God, Make me the kind of man my son wants me to be.”

Definitely, humbling words. A haunting reminder that few fathers are as good as their children think.

One thing for sure. We don’t have to worry about the kind of Father God is. God is good. All the time God is good. Yes He is.

Does A Father Ever Know Best?

What do you do with a little boy who will be 9-months old tomorrow? I suppose handcuffs might work. Maybe a straight jacket. Maybe some medicines would be helpful.

Evan is very active! Evan enjoys life and playing and having fun. He especially enjoys playing in the kitchen. I'm not sure why, but he does. The problem with that is that the kitchen is just a little too dangerous for him, even if we have childproofed it. Plus, I can't always see him when he crawls behind the couch into the kitchen.

So, Friday afternoon, I came up with a temporary solution for dealing with Mr. Evan's adventures!

Kind of sad, isn't it? I'm a grown man. I have more than one degree. I'm usually a pretty smart guy. Yet, at 9-months, Evan has just about defeated me already!

And in case you are wondering, my temporary solution only worked for about 5 minutes. After that, he found a way around it!

And then the chase was on again!
