Random--100 Words

Random.

I’ll admit it.

My blog is quite random. I know.

It’s rather intentional that way.

One day I’m talking about mayonnaise.

The next, I’ll be talking about the resurrection.

It’s my blog.

Solely run by me.

Written by me.

Reflecting me.

Just be thankful you don’t live in my mind!

Thoughts pop into my mind all day and night. While in the midst of conversation, reading, or just living. Thoughts that need to be expressed. Almost as if they are about to literally jump out of my mouth onto the computer screen.

Accept it for what it is.

Random.

Tone--100 Words

Tone.

Tone is difficult to read.

Whether in a face-to-face conversation. Or, email message. Especially when you tweet or post on Facebook.

143 characters isn’t enough. Sometimes an entire book isn’t enough.

Is he angry? Is she frustrated with me? Did I hurt her feelings? Does he realize I didn’t like what he said?

Does the other person even care about my feelings?

My heart?

You have to wonder sometimes. Or, at least I do.

Maybe I am overly sensitive. I don’t think so.

Maybe I am not smart enough to understand their humor.

Or, maybe they are just rude.

Friendship--100 Words

Friendship.

What does that mean?

Think about it. What makes a person a friend?

Having things in common? Going to the same school? Church? Neighbors?

Being a “friend” on Facebook? Hopefully, you know that everyone who requests to be your friend or who accepts your friendship request isn’t really your friend.

In the same way, not everyone who claims to be your friend in life isn’t your friend either.

Winnie the Pooh said, “If you live to be 100, I hope to live to be 100 minus 1 day so I never have to live without you.”

That’s a friend.

Live--100 Words

Live.

Someone called and said, “I didn’t expect to get you live.”

The options immediately went through my brain. Did they expect to catch me dead? Did they think someone else would answer? Were they hoping I wouldn’t answer the phone?

Oh. I get it. They expected my voice mail to pick up.

No one ever calls me. Really. Honest, they don’t. Well, other than my wife. Most people email or send a note on Facebook.

Is that wrong? Are we hiding behind technology? Or, do we just want printed proof of what we talked about?

What do you think?

It Finally Has Happened

A British university is offering a master's degree in Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter, but it will cost students more than $6,200.

For $6,275 Birmingham City University in the U.K. will teach students how to blog, set up podcasts, and make the most of the social media Web sites for marketing.

“It’s not for freaks or IT geeks. The tools learned on this course will be accessible to many people,” convenor Jon Hickman told The Daily Mail.

“It will definitely appeal to students looking to go into professions including journalism and PR.”
But student Jamie Waterman, said it would be a waste of the university’s resources.

“It’s of no interest to me whatsoever. Virtually all of the content of this course is so basic it can be self-taught,” he said.
Can someone loan me $6,200? I really need to expand my horizons, go back to school, and get another degree, especially a degree that won't be worth the paper it is printed on!
A degree in Facebook and Twitter? Only the Brits...

Big Brother (or Big Sister) is Watching

You’d best be careful with your Facebook account. Yes, seriously. I’m not taking about posting naked pictures of yourself. Even though that wouldn’t be very smart. I’m talking something even more serious.

In Canberra, Australia, an attorney has used the popular networking Web site Facebook to notify a couple that they lost their home after defaulting on a loan. The Australian Capital Territory Supreme Court last Friday approved lawyer Mark McCormack’s application to use Facebook to serve the legally binding documents after several failed attempts to contact the couple at the house and by email.

Australian courts have given permission in the past for people to be served via email and text messages when it was not possible to serve them in person.

The lender’s application to take back the house in the capital, Canberra, was approved on October 3 after the couple failed to appear in court. The lender was then required to serve the so-called default judgment on the couple before it could seize the property. “It’s somewhat novel, however we do see it as a valid method of bringing the matter to the attention of the defendant,” said McCormack, who represents a mortgage lender.

Facebook has become a wildly popular online hangout, attracting more than 140 million users worldwide since it launched in 2004. Facebook friends can “poke” or “superpoke” each other—terms for giving someone a playful nudge.

In the latest ruling, Master David Harper insisted that the documents be attached to a private email sent via Facebook that could not be seen by others visiting the pages. McCormack said he and a colleague found the woman’s Facebook page using personal details that she had given the lender including her birth date and email address. The man was listed on her page as a friend.

So, what do you think? Is that fair? Is that a fair use of Facebook?

I’m fairly new to Facebook. What’s the best use of it that you have found? Any problems you’ve encountered?

Prohibition Day

The symbol to the left is call a Prohibition Symbol. Honest, it is! I'm not sure why. Maybe I should have taken the time to research it a little more, but I'm not going to do that today. If any reader wants to take the time to research it and to share with our readers, that would be greatly appreciated. But, for now, just know that it is a prohibition symbol or sign.

The point today is not the meaning behind the symbol. The point today is what I am not going to do. Today, I am not going to spend time on the computer reading blogs or commenting on my own blog. I'm having a "No Computer Day." So, should you feel led to comment here today, please be nice. If you chose not to be nice, I'll simply delete your comment tomorrow. And, the great thing about Sitemeter (that little counter at the bottom right of my page) is that I will know who was being naughty and who was being nice! (And, I'm not above telling Santa!) I think some blog readers forget that every time they log on to a blog site, it is being recorded. I know who visits my site, for the most part, on any given day, all by the IP address left behind.

Well, today is "No Computer Day." It's not a national event, it is just my own personal decision to unplug for the day. I have a terrible habit of staying connected. I don't know what drives me to do that, but I have that urge to keep up, to know what is happening, and to see what others have said.

I made the decision this past week to disconnect more often. I've started by not reading my email at night. After a very frustrating email on Monday night, that literally woke me up at 2:00 AM and would not let me go back to sleep, I decided enough was enough. Well, in truth, I can't blame the email or the person who sent it. The email didn't keep me awake, I allowed the email to keep me awake for most of the night.

I won't do that again! I've told the people I work with not to expect an email reply after I leave in the afternoons. And, I'm telling you here, if you email me after quitting time, you'll hear back from me first thing in the morning.

Now, I'm still going to blog and facebook from home. Those things are not work. They are for fun and relaxation. So, don't be surprised if you comment on my blog at 7:00 PM to see me respond within a few minutes. As my wife grades papers, I'd rather be blogging than to be watching TV.

Just don't expect those things today.

Anyway, it is Sunday.

My computer needs a rest, a day off. Afterall, who even reads blogs on Sunday? I know a few of you do--you are kind of like the group of people who go to Sunday night worship! The cream of the crop! Now, if you are reading this on Monday, you are still good--but the cream rose to the top yesterday! :)

Have a great day today. May the King be real to you in all that you do for Him today!

And, thanks. Thanks for reading. Thanks for commenting. Thanks for the sense of family and community when I come here.

I'll be interested to see tomorrow who visited my site today!

Happy Prohibition Sign Day!
