I've decided to take a walk to explore the world around me. If you'd like to come along, I'll share my thoughts with you on what I've found on this journey.

Question of the Day
If you could hangout with just one person from history for coffee (or even a glass of iced cold sweet tea) and conversation (other than Jesus) whom would it be? And, why that person?
OK, I'll go. Billy Graham. I would love to pick his brain and understand what he had that allowed God to use him to reach so many people for Christ. I went with Wade Burleson and Marty Duren 2 years ago to see him but we didn't get through. It was fun. It is on my old blog
Camey asked me if I was going to answer my own question. Yes, I am.
I suppose there are many to name to such a list, but two come to mind immediately.
First of all, I'd like to meet Paul. I'd like to ask him how he overcame his thorn in the flesh. I'd like to ask him how he found the strength to go and go and go. I'd like to ask him what Jesus looked like when he was blinded by the light on the road.
Secondly, I'd like to have coffee with Abraham Lincoln. I'd love to know how he found the courage to lead during the Civil War. I'd love to know how he found the strength to lead in the face of such opposition from all sides. And, I'd love to know what he thinks of how we have done since his death.
The writer of Hebrews. I need his exegesis. (is that how you spell it?)
Paul, I want to know what he really meant by all those scriptures everyone argues about. Plus I really would like clarification on the thorn in his flesh.
John Calvin. I'd like to have him explain what he means by what he says and if what he meant is what others say he meant today. selahV
ya'll are going to think I'm crazy, but if I could sit down with someone, and know they would give me straight, honest answers, I'd like to have a few minutes with Adolf Hitler and ask him, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN?????"
(I am leading a group of Sr. Citizen ladies through a holocaust study right now, and they are coming up with some questions that only he could answer, so I'm not a raving lunatic, I promise.)
On a more positive note, I would like to talk to Beethoven or Mozart, or one of the early explorers -- Columbus, Magellan, etc
Steve: Day off today so late getting here. Who would I like to sit down with? All of the obvious of course. But truly? You, Camey, Karma, DesertJim, all the fellow bloggers that I have begun to know by print but not face to face. I think we would have a rousing good time laughing, talking, goofing off, and or course discussing. Does that get me any brownie points? :)
Bill, I almost gave the same answer you did...but, I thought you guys would give me a hard time...I would LOVE to meet all of you, over a cup of coffee (or diet dr. pepper or sweet tea)...and yes, your brownie points just went way up!
Garshk guys: Don't know if I can handle all this being nice to me. When my bride does that I "OK. what do you want?" :) But brownie points aside: I would honestly consider it a highlight of my year to sit down and meet y'all and have a Diet Dr. Pepper with you.
So? You going to answer your own question? I will if you will...

Oh! Very funny Steve...
ReplyDeleteKevin: I thought Steve meant someone deceased.
Steve? Steve? Come in Steve?
Paul
ReplyDeleteI'd sure like to pick his brain and find out what he saw and heard and experienced when he was being prepared for his missions.
Heidi
History can be modern history or more ancient history...your choice...
ReplyDeleteDon't make this complicated Camey!
Thanks for defining history Steve.
ReplyDeleteOkay... I'll bite too.
Job.
Camey...that wasn't a bite...that was a nibble...
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the "why" part...
And, Kevin...O'Henry's coffee...now, there's a good cup of coffee...Their Christmas Blend...MMMM!
ReplyDeleteOHHHHH the why.... I knew there was something else..
ReplyDeleteWhy?
1)"The Lord blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first."
2)"My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer..."
Job is of course - one of MANY. Living and living yet thought of as deceased.
George Washington because he's George Washington.

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing your answer!
Steve,
Thanks for answering the question! And for being you.
Karma...I, too, can hardly wait for your answer...
ReplyDeleteCamey...No other way to be! :)

ReplyDeleteUt oh Steve.. You gotta admit.. that was one darn sweet comment from Bill.
ReplyDeleteBill: Awwwww. Darn sweet and downright touching. (Shhh I started to say that about you guys/gals but didn't want to be accused of brown nosing.)
I know Camey...Bill is a great guy...let's just not tell him that too often, or we won't be able to handle his ego!
ReplyDeleteThen again...Bill is too sincere to let the ego be a problem!
