Did I Use the Best Keywords?

Keywords.

Keywords are so important as you develop and grow your blog. I'm just learning how all of this works and I really would like to make some kind of impact with my blog. Not sure what that impact is or will ever be. I just want to have some relevance in the lives of those who visit this site, some who visit it daily, some weekly, and some, just once. Maybe my blog will inform you. Maybe you will walk away enlighted. Maybe you will question what has been written or the comments shared. Who knows the impact these words will ultimately have.

Keywords. I searched across the Internet today to see what some of the most used keywords are. I was surprised to see that to really take advantage of keywords, you have to purchase monthly reports, updates, I suppose, to discover a marketing plan of how to use keywords and what the hot button words are. However as I searched, I did see that some of the most common keywords used today are these: Myspace; Facebook; Yahoo; Google; sex; eBay; porn; adult; peace; happiness; and, Jesus.

Interesting mix, don't you think? What is sad is that most of the keywords out there I will not print on my blog. Oh, there are some interesting words. Some keywords that are in common use by way too many people. But, not here.

So, today is an experiment. How many additional hits will I get because I have used these words? I'm curious. So, we'll see.

Yet, of all the keywords in the list that I found, the only keyword that makes a difference is the last one in the list: the name Jesus.

Jesus is the name that matters. Jesus is the name that makes an eternal difference. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. We must go through Jesus to reach God, our Father in heaven. How do I know? He told us so.

So, what is your keyword today? What will drive you through the day? What will motivate you? What will be your focus?

I hope you know Him. If not, you can today. Here's a Web site to answer many of your questions. Please take a few minutes to read over that site and then check back here to share your thoughts and insights.

I hope you'll come back to visit here as you have time. We talk about many different things. You are welcome here.

  2. On my site, Confessions of a a Recovering Pharisee,I no longer have a Myspace account because of the trash but I do have Facebook account, a Yahoo briefcase and email, a Google email and video account, I'm pro sex within a biblical marriage, I bought a guitar on eBay last week, I believe porn ruins lives, I'm a adult who has peace, happiness and a relationship with Jesus. :)

  3. Okay Kevin...that is just too funny!

Now, if I can just get you to link this article to your site...I'll increase my hit total by hundreds!

I wonder if anyone else can work all the keywords into their comment like you did!

The challenge is on blogger friends!

  4. Steve,

I've noticed that the most frequently searched term that gets people to my blog is "hot tub fun". I labeled a picture of my kids with their cousins in my folks' hot tub. When I clicked on the link to see where they came from, thank Jesus, my internet filter which blocks sex , porn, and other adult oriented sites, also blocked that particular site!

I have found, however, that people use those same search terms on Yahoo, Google, and MSN Search to get to my site. I have a link on my web page to Facebook, but like Kevin, I don't use Myspace anymore because of all the illicit spam. After all, you can't buy happiness on eBay!

    Grace and Peace to you!

BTW, it's 69 and light rain this morning at 10 am!

  5. Rick...you are too funny...And, so subtle...

Thanks for a great comment! You get an A+ for this one!

Oh, if you are curious, my biggest referrer to my site is a post that I did several months ago about the most expensive hamburger in the world! That brings more people here than anything...well, other than my outstanding writing and personality! :)

  6. Thanks. I always was the "teacher's pet".

On a serious note, however, I notice that you are separating your tags with semicolons. By doing that, you are making them into one long tag/keyword. You need to separate them by commas. That way, is someone wanted to look up something like "Google" but didn't want the search connected to "sex", then they would be able to do it. Otherwise, you will probably have very low search results, unless someone was specifically looking up all of these different terms at the very same time.

  7. BTW, On my church website, I am getting a huge amount of hits on "Eric Liddell", the Flying Scotsman Olympian for whom Chariots of Fire was about. He later was missionary in China and died during WWII in a Japanese prison camp.

Well, I visited the camp several years ago and took pictures of a monument and the hospital and posted them on the website:

I guess with "Olympic Fever", people are interested.

(I figure I'd plug my own site today)
