A Candidate without a Church

According to Fox News, presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have resigned their membership at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, after controversies stemming from the church created a persistent distraction for Obama’s campaign.

Obama made the decision with “some sadness,” but said he had been discussing it with his family for “quite some time.”

Obama’s pastor problems continued this week when the Rev. Michael Pfleger taunted Hillary Clinton and said she felt “entitled” to the presidency because she’s white.

By resigning his 20-year membership, Obama is taking the most definitive stand to date against the church. He suggested that the Pfleger backlash was the deciding factor for him.

Mr. Obama said, “It’s clear that now that I’m a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will be imputed to me, even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles.”

In Mr. Obama’s May 30 letter to the church, he wrote that his relationship with the church had been “strained” by the statements of Wright.

FROM ME--What do you think about his "resignation" from his church. Is it too little, too late? Is it the right decision? While this change, pro or con, how you vote in November?

Let me know what you think!

  1. It is the right decision...

I had decided to vote for Senator McCain a few months ago...

And yes, it is too little, too late.

I have invited The Obama family to come visit us at The Moody Church here in Chicago.

    Great blog, by the way.

    I'm a native Alabamian also.

I hope everything works out and Mr. Obama visits your ministry. Then again, not sure I would wish the "media circus" on you and your people!

Come back and visit our fine state as you have time! We miss the "Good" people who leave!
