Idiot-Proof--100 Words

Idiot-proof.

Society has tried to idiot-proof just about everything.

Medicine has child-proof tops on it.

We’ve made tamper-resistant doors for our kitchen cabinets.

There are warning signs for just about everything known to mankind today.

We even have cars that can parallel park!

Yet, we can’t stop an idiot from getting behind the steering wheel of a car.

Yesterday, on my way to work, I was just about run over by a pickup truck. The driver, at the last second, swerved to miss my car as I sat at a red light.

I guess we can’t idiot-proof idiots, can we?

Speed Racer He Ain't!

When I first read the following story, my first thought was “California!”

After you read the story, I bet many of you will think the same thing! We’ve just come to expect things like this from California. But, not this time. This time, it’s from Little Falls, Minnesota. Yes, Minnesota!

It seems that a 40-year-old man is behind bars after leading deputies on a 57-mile chase—in a garbage truck. At one point, a Morrison County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the truck by firing a shotgun into its engine.

Police said the pursuit started when authorities received a report Tuesday about an intoxicated man trying to get into a home. The man left, driving the truck, before deputies arrived. Authorities said the driver swerved at squad cars and accelerated in reverse. Deputies tried stopping the truck with stop sticks, but it kept going with several flat tires.

The driver eventually pulled over and was caught by a police dog as he ran into the woods.
The suspect was treated for dog bites, then jailed, pending charges.

Well. At least it ended well. The man was arrested. A police dog got involved. He’s now in jail. A few dog bites. All’s well that ends well. Police 1. Drunken thief 0.

Tonya and I love Christmas ornaments!

We really do.

Every year, when we go on vacation, one of the "must have" purchases in the city we are visiting is a new Christmas ornament. Then, at Christmastime, that new ornament is placed front and center so we can see it and enjoy it.

We also have purchased a number of other ornaments that have special significance to us.

Our dog, Peanut, really is a part of our family. We've had her 5 years now and she is the best dog you could ever have. A couple of years ago, we added an ornament for Peanut.

As I've written about previously in other blog posts, I used to serve as a volunteer fireman. So, this next ornament means a great deal to me. And, oh, how I would love to drive this truck!

And, just for fun, here's a cute snowman fireman.
