One Short--100 Words

One short.

Ever feel like you come up one short?

I grew up playing baseball. In those days, you couldn’t start playing until you were 5 or 6.

I’ll never forget batting against 10 year old pitchers! It wasn’t fair—for the 6-year-old batter, that is.

I often came up one short. If I were lucky, I’d bat 3 for 4 in the game. Still, I’d be one short of perfect.

I’ve often come up one short. At work. At home. As a father. As a friend.

Never a good feeling.

Not something to strive for.

In baseball.

Or life.

Excellence--100 Words

Excellence.

I’ll admit it. My nature is to strive for excellence.

Excellence sounds better than perfection.

Excellence sounds better than saying I have a Type A personality and I have to get things right. The first time.

Excellence sounds honest.

Sounds honorable.

Almost noble.

After all, what’s wrong with excellence? What’s wrong with striving for it in everything you do?

I’ll admit I take it a little too far. However, I grow weary seeing so many who have no desire to do things right. It’s as if they don’t care.

Excellence or not caring? I know the answer for me.

Freedom--100 Words

Freedom.

I’ve been thinking about freedom lately. Freedom from tyranny. Freedom from oppression. Financial burdens. Governmental insanity.

I guess we’ll never know those freedoms this side of heaven—especially as it relates to government.

Gandhi said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”

Our government will never be perfect. Not even close. There are no perfect Democrats. Or Republicans. Or Independents.

There aren’t any perfect Christians either.

We keep trying. And failing. We’re only human.

So, before criticizing politicians or Christians too quickly, make sure you’ve cleaned off your own feet first.
