Just Below the Surface

A Colorado woman digging a sprinkler system discovered a grenade that police say may date back to World War II.

Grand Junction Police Bomb Squad Sgt. Stan Ancell said the grenade discovered Saturday was harmless because a detonating mechanism had been disabled.

Joann Martinez said her shovel pulled up the grenade and she briefly picked it up, then set it back down and covered it with a wheelbarrow before calling police.

Ancell said it appeared the grenade had been buried a long time.

I love Sgt. Ancell’s statement. The grenade has been there a long time? Dud! If it does date back to WW II, then, yes, that was a LONG time ago.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve found in your yard? Other than a few rusted out beer cans left behind by the builders or electrical cable left buried in the yard, that’s about it for me.

So, do tell. What’s the strangest thing left behind in your yard?
